How Often Should You Wash Your Wig?

The honest answer depends on how often you wear it, but as a general rule, washing every eight to twelve wears strikes the right balance between cleanliness and preservation.

Washing too frequently strips the hair of its natural moisture and can cause the fibres to weaken over time. Leaving it too long allows product buildup, sweat, and environmental pollutants to accumulate, which dulls the hair and shortens its lifespan.

When it’s time to wash, use cool or lukewarm water. Hot water disrupts the cuticle and causes frizz. Work a small amount of sulphate-free shampoo through the hair in a downward motion, following the direction of the hair rather than scrubbing against it. Rinse thoroughly, apply a lightweight conditioner from mid-length to ends, and allow it to sit for a few minutes before rinsing.

Pat dry with a microfibre towel. DO NOT RUB. Let the wig air dry on a stand rather than using direct heat where possible.

Treated well, the hair will hold its quality far longer than most people expect.
