How to Store a Wig Properly Between Wears

How you store a wig matters as much as how you wear it. Poor storage is one of the most common reasons a quality piece loses its shape, texture, and longevity prematurely.

After each wear, gently detangle the hair from the ends upward using a wide-tooth comb or a soft bristle brush. Never pull through tangles from the root, this causes unnecessary shedding and disrupts the weft.

Once detangled, place the wig on a mannequin head or a collapsible wig stand. This preserves the cap structure and prevents the hair from being compressed or flattened. If a stand isn’t available, a clean silk or satin bag is the next best option, never a plastic bag, which traps humidity and accelerates deterioration.

Keep stored wigs away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and dusty surfaces. UV exposure fades colour and dries out the hair over time, even when it isn’t being worn.

A piece stored with the same care it was chosen with will reward you accordingly.
